UMG x Sex Pistols: The Pistol Mint

This is the page description.

UMG x Sex Pistols: The Pistol Mint

In 1977, the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s silver jubilee, Sex Pistols released Never Mind The Bollocks, one of the greatest and most controversial albums of all time. For the album’s 45th anniversary — which coincided with the Queen’s platinum jubilee — we launched The Pistol Mint, a punk rock spin on The Royal Mint.

The Pistol Mint featured a limited edition commemorative coin with an NFT twin. All the coins — digital and physical — featured the work of Jamie Reid, the British visual artist behind the iconic album art of the Sex Pistols.

The physical coin

One of 12 digital twins

Upon purchasing the physical coin, fans would be randomly assigned one of 12 digital coins from three tiers: Dirty Sod, Fuckin Rotter or The Bollocks.

The Pistol Mint was Universal Music Group’s first foray into digital / physical products, and a huge success: we doubled sales targets, with one month’s anticipated sales volume occurring in the first week. With this launch, Sex Pistols celebrated their past while laying a foundation for the future: one where they can connect more closely with fans, connect fans with each other, and bring their unique brand of anarchy to web3.
